Burnout for Christians is very real and can have a long lasting effect on our walk with God. It can leave one feeling empty, discouraged even exhausted . Many find that they simply do not have any energy for the things of God. Does that sound familiar? Are you feeling the effects of burnout? Maybe it’s time to take a moment to “refill the tank”, a get re-energized for the things of God.
Start off by first by simply getting away. You don’t necessarily have to use a vacation to do this or even drive hundreds miles away. You can simply pick a place close to home to relax and simply enjoy being in His presence. Getting away doesn’t always mean a change in your physical location, as long as your getting away from the daily grind and stresses to spend time with God. Secondly, Be Still. Psalm 46:10 tells us “Be still, and know that I am God..” Taking the time to do that is often times easier said than done. There are so many things that call for our attention. And if we don’t learn to take some time and listen for God’s voice above the noise the world makes, then we could potentially miss the message God is trying to place in our hearts. Being still means take a break from the hustle and bustle of work, school and other outside distraction so we can focus on God. Meditate on His word. Study it. Read what it has to say to your soul as you read it. Take some time to listen for the voice of God. God so many times, speaks to us in a still small voice, or He may even give a word through someone else. And finally, just be present. Be there. Don’t simply go through the motions of church, experience worship. Worship is meant to be experienced. Many times we can be so busy doing things that we miss those special moments God has for us. We can’t afford to miss God’s voice, or experience His presence. Take time this week to replenish your soul. Take time to talk with Him and then, just sit and listen for the voice of God. He may just surprise you with an answer you’ve been waiting for, needing to receive and “refill your tank”.
